On January 8, 2011, Congresswoman Gabriell Giffords (D-AZ), a member of her staff, and several of her constituents were shot by Jared Lee Loughner in a store parking lot in Tucson, Arizona. In the wake of the shooting, both sides of the political spectrum called for a stop to "vitriolic rhetoric" that was being blamed for the shooting, with most of the blame being laid by Democrats on Republicans (namely Sarah Palin).

Now, over six months after the incident, it seems the shoe is on other foot. In the past several weeks, we've seen the Congressional Black Caucus on the attack, with hateful speeches made by Maxine Waters and Andre Carson. Just yesterday, Teamsters President Jim Hoffa rallied the crowd in Detroit by saying "Let's take these son of a bitches out" in reference to the Tea Party. Both the White House and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (DNC Chair) have declined to comment on Hoffa's statement.

Today it was reported that a new online game will grant Hoffa's wish.

The game, developed by StarvingEyes (whose clients include NASCAR, Pepsi/Mountain Dew, and several companies in the entertainment industry) allows players to use a variety of weapons such as Uzis and crowbars to physically annihilate zombie versions of Newt Gingrich, Bill O'Reilly, the Koch brothers, and Sarah Palin.

Screenshots, anyone?

What do you know, the stereotypical image of a Tea Partier -- a KKK member.

Yet another stereotype -- the overall-wearing, trailor trash redneck, complete with rebel flag and Obama/Joker poster.

Zombie Sarah Palin (Hope they got the rights to use this image)

Yes, you too can bash the brains of Newt and Bill in the post-apocalyptic Fox News studio.

[Screenshots and client list from National Review Online and The Gateway Pundit]

As one person commented (via NRO), it would be deemed racist and sexist if this were done with Democrats as the targets, so why is no one from the Left condemning this kind of thing when the Liberal-minded are at fault?

Whether people like it or not, Tea Partiers are part of the fabric of American politics. They're Americans who enjoy the same rights, privileges, and problems as every other American in this country. And believe it or not, there are black people in the Tea Party, too. Shocker!

A great political mind once said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world." If the rhetoric was so awful before Giffords was shot and THAT was the fault for the attack in the first place, why are Democrats trying to go back to that (or continue it since the rhetoric never really stopped)?

You question is answered when you remember that another great man once said,

If they send one of yours to the hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue.

That's the Chicago way!

The hopey changey stuff is all just political posturing and meaningless, insincere rhetoric. It is as fake as fake outrage gets.

The party base and left leaning Indies tells the Democrats "why don't you stand up to those GOP SOBs?"

How the Democrat's interpret that is "why don't you act like those GOP SOBs?"

It's so confusing, but I'd rather they stand up than roll over, tbh. But that is because I am a walking testosterone machine.

I would also like to point out that chart indicates Nixon trends like a Democrat and Obama like a Republican. This makes sense considering Nixon gave us the EPA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, OSHA, the Philadelphia Plan and endorsed the Equal Rights Amendment during his 1968 presidential campaign, while Obama gave us Nixon's fucking healthcare reform instead of a single payer plan.

See, the problem is that all I have to do is start reading comments at NRO or on the last youtube video like this:

How long is America going to stand for these Marixt neo-communist socialists in its govt?

I'm forced to conclude that while it may not be time yet for house-to-house fighting, there's no sense in pretending that these are reasonable people.

Why is no one "from the Left" condemning this kind of thing? Well, a few things came to mind when I saw that quote.

1.) Wow. That was incredibly stupid and inappropriate.
2.) Well, he was pretty clearly talking about voting people out. There wasn't even really a metaphor there.
3.) Context matters. I don't recall Democrats carrying rifles to rallies or accusing Republicans of being treasonous, socialists, enemies of the state, etc. so while it's bad, it really isn't the same.
4.) I'd never even heard of this dude until today. He probably doesn't have the kind of pull that Palin or Perry do.
5.) I'm sure Republicans will be drawing false equivalences with this very soon.

So it's probably a little of all that, but mostly 3 and 4.

That always annoys me, and the right uses this stupid reasoning all the time:

"Why doesn't [insert group here] condemn [a few stupid people of group]?"

Meaning that if they don't condemn it, that means they tacitly condone it. I see this all the time regarding Muslims and terrorism. Moderate muslims DO condemn terrorism, they just don't take out full page ads in newspapers when they do it.

Jim Hoffa flinging insults...

Date: 7/9/11 16:21 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sophia-sadek.livejournal.com
I take offense at the way Jim Hoffa implied that Tea Party members are children of dogs. Although I do not count myself among the lovers of dogs, I do respect them enough to see this as an insult to their species. Jim Hoffa should be ashamed of himself.

Andre Carson made a petty play for the emotions of voters. However, his observations may be more accurate than we know.

Maxine Waters reminds me of the king who commanded the ocean to make waves. She will not earn credit by positing the spawn of Satan in the bad place. They put themselves in that position long ago.
