[identity profile] htpcl.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] talkpolitics
Hi again, you bunch of pissed off whiners LJ-ers who want nothing more but to get back to normal LJ services! I hope this post will pass through the LJ sieve as there seems to be a limit for the length of posts lately (see below). Anyway, if it doesn't post I'll cut the first half shorter and the second I'll post as a first comment - which I suggest that you do too when you make longer posts (yay, we Bulgarians are so cunning!). So I'll try to make this follow-up update as concise as possible. Your daily scan through the Russian press found this:

The N.American and S.American hackers finally left LJ alone.

The LJ attacks are over
http://www.newsinfo.ru/news/2011-07-30/item/758660/
...But there are still some difficulties. Most attacks originated in South America, and included not just virus attacks but also massive servers hosted in North America.
It's unclear when all problems will be solved.
No data was lost.

LJ doesn't allow long posts

Blogger Anton Nosik believes the LJ admins have blocked posts longer than 2048 symbols deliberately, and make us believe it's a result of the attacks.

It's not just the attacks; it's about the incompetence of the LJ admins.
There've been calls to suspend the dissident bloggers to get rid of the targets and avoid further attacks.
The attacks are part of a plan to weaken the opposition before the coming elections.

Prominent bloggers are planning to leave LJ, or at least are creating reserve mirror blogs elsewhere (some famous Russian journalists and opposition politicians are listed).

Blogger #1 drugoi is moving to a standalone mode. His hopes are on Google+.

Interesting poll: what would you do if "Live" Journal finally dies? a) I'll kill my PC. 2) I'll commit suicide. 3) I'll sue them in Strasbourg. 4) I'll join Limonov's party. 5). I'll opt for Google+. 6) Will go to Blog-F. 7) What is LJ?

...And I think I've hit length limit.

Someone has already reserved a talk_politics community there.

Doesn't matter. It can have a slightly different name.

No, I meant someone from here did it just in case we had to jump ship.

This is great. It means they'd be mod there, right? In this case it really depends who that is. Do you happen to know?

I'm sure they'll work with the folks here, it's not a power grab or anything.

That we have no way of knowing. But do tell, shall I stop insisting with the question if it's a secret?

Honey, it's not a secret; and they're nice and honorable people: farchivist reserved it for us.

Let me search my memory. That same lady who intensely flamed all people (correction: all conservatives), was kindly asked to calm down, several times; but absolutely refused to play civil and even got herself deliberately banned by calling people various names, in order to leave the staff no other option because she felt all rebelious - i.e. made a massive flounce?

Must check again the definition of "nice" in the dictionary...

Google+ it shall be, then...

Sorry to say it, but if that's going to happen, the *name* of the community isn't important. Who is the administrator is. I don't know Farchivist and I don't have anything against him/her, *but* if anyone is going to administrate our community, it's not going to be them. They can administrate another community with our name if they wish. The founders of this community will possibly create a community that is like this one, on DW in some future, and the name will obviously then have to be different, which in my book isn't a big deal.

Yep, I understand that. It's the community of users that makes a place work. The name is completely incidental. And this thing would happen all the time in IRC-- channels would get hacked, and the users would have to go to a fall back channel and leave the "hacked" one. All I said was that someone reserved the name for the people here and would punt it off to the people here. That's all.

I get your point, but i think there's nothing wrong with having the name reserved for us, just in case we decided to move, as was suggested (which i still think is a very last option). Moreover, its someone we know well; that some of us may've had disagreements with, but after all, is and will always be one of us.
