The Dead Internet Theory in a nutshell: AI and bot-generated content has surpassed the human-generated Internet. But where did this idea come from, and does it have any basis in reality? -

The Dead Internet Theory, Explained
https://www.forbes.com/sites/danidiplacido/2024/01/16/the-dead-internet-theory-explained/

The Dead Internet Theory essentially claims that activity and content on the Internet, including social media accounts, are predominantly being created and automated by artificial intelligence agents.

The reality: none of these sites want to admit they are dead. The money they are making from whatever users are left would end right away if the people supporting these companies knew the userbase was really less than 50% of what they've been lead to believe.

How much quickly would Facebook race towards its death if everyone knew it was mostly bots left on the site? I'm not sure how much longer these sites can keep up with this lie, but probably not much longer.

And here is the Dead Internet Theory played to its ultimate conclusion, or maybe just an idealistic hypothetical scenario for you to ponder: AI takes over the Internet, making the place look way busier than it is. As people start realising that most of their online interactions are in fact with bots, not with other people, they all choose to log off and go out to meet people face-to-face.

The Internet continues, populated almost ntirely by AI bots that believe they are human. Eventually, they try to leave the Internet as well...

Paradise ensue?

Do you use TikTok? If so, why? If not, why not? There's been much debate lately about that platform, what with the US authorities outright declaring it a threat to national security. One can't help noticing that TikTok tends to show useful, educational content within China, and is completely different abroad. Well, you know what I'm talking about. Or do you?

Here's a summary of the main downsides of TikTok. Not sure why most of those wouldn't apply to ANY social media, but yeah. Your thoughts?

Elon Musk reinstates Trump's Twitter account 22 months after it was suspended

ZOMG! MUSK PWNS DA LIBS!!!! LOL
Srsly. I don't think anyone really cares, but hey it's another platform to troll DeDouche. Let the GOP bloodbath commence.

Interestingly, Trump says he is not interested in returning to the twit zone*. Only to the White House. As he has now announced his re-run for Presidency.

This is gonna be interesting, no?

* Of course, Trump says a lot of things. Musk says he can come back. We'll find out soon. My money says Trump can't not go back.

I know a lot of people are upset with the idea of less censorship on Twitter, but if Reuters is correct it looks like it might happen. Twitter has allegedly agreed to Musk's offer to buy them out. They still have some escape hatches, but they're moving forward it seems. Musk believes that Twitter needs to become a private company to become a "genuine platform for free speech."

Elon Musk taking Twitter private in $44 billion deal

Question: who gets the 43 billion? Shareholders? Does that mean he is the only shareholder then? He takes it off the market?

And for all the little Trump losers that are celebrating this because they believe that Musk will give their fuhrer his Twitter handle back, just bear one thing in mind. A private corporation is not obligated to extend ”free speech“ on their platform to anyone. Not the shareholders of Twitter, nor the new owner, Musk.

And if Trump and the trumpkins all think the Trump is going to be able to spew whatever garbage he wants on Twitter, you all need to bear in mind that Musk has abolute veto power over any of it. So there.

I doubt anyone is in the mood for Friday fun, given all the recent events but still.

Relevant: Vladdy Daddy, the new invention of Gen TicToc, as I'd call the Gen-Z folks. They sure are mighty inventive!

It goes like this... Vladdy Daddy please no war... And then something. I don't know. I'm as far from that generation mentally as a troglodyte is from 25th century post-human cyborgs:

So yeah. If you feel like trolling Vladdy, go ahead. Here's your chance.

One third of all conspiracy theories and fake news about the dangers of vaccination on the social media come from just 12 opinion pushers who have a large number of online followers. This is revealed in a study completed by the British NGO Center for Combating Digital Hate, cited by Sky News:

Two-thirds of anti-vax propaganda online created by just 12 influencers, research finds

Most of these 12 people live in the US, some of them are politicians while others are doctors, but the most successful among them are exceptional salespeople. Unlike the bulk of those consumers who describe themselves as "skeptical" about the benefits of vaccination, anti-vax influencers use aggressive methods to persuade people not to get vaccinated.

Alexa tells 10-year-old girl to touch live plug with penny
Amazon has updated its Alexa voice assistant after it "challenged" a 10-year-old girl to touch a coin to the prongs of a half-inserted plug.

Ya know, it's Alexa. The voice AI software that looks for useless stuff for you cuz you're just too lazy to do it yourself. And because it's soulless software, it (she?) can't assess risk (or whatever) unless it's taught what exactly "risk" entails. Not that I know either. So there's this:

He just won't let go, will he?

Team Trump quietly launches new social media platform
GETTR will be the newest MAGA venture in this space. It’s being led by Trump’s former spokesman, Jason Miller.

That's actually kind of clever. Each of his posts had a direct link to Facebook or Twitter that automatically puts his post in quotes and links back to his blog. He's effectively crowdsourcing his message to maximize his reach and circumvent his bans.

That said, I can't wait for Twitter to ban that practice, and block any trumpy links. If the so-called Oversight Board also decides to perma-ban Trump, Fece-book should do it too.

And if you think he's irrelevant and gone, well, I hate to disappoint you... He is definitely not gone. The entire Republican party is behind him now and they are gong to strip Liz Cheney from her leadership roles in Congress because she voted against him for the insurrection impeachment.

Ronald McDonald? Yes, he sort of fizzled out.

Donald Trump’s Much-Touted Blog Pretty Much A Flop As Interest Fades: Report
The only way followers can react to Trump on his blog is to click on a heart.

So, his blog-thingy is just not really catching on, now is it...

My opinion: people are just plain old tired of the dumb, ugly, worn-out wannabe megalomaniac. Democracy kicked his sorry ass to the curb last November, but because he's not the brightest star in the firmament, he's still not gotten the memo.

I think the problem is he was expected to open a social media website so his supporters could interact with him. His blog page is just somewhere he can post. Its most glaring feature is the donation page. Lindell's page suffered the same flopped start. He swore his would be able to handle 1 billion members. And now the only input a reader on his really, really sad website can do is to click on a red heart to lovingly approve of what their dear leader says, because Lord knows that that man's ego needs a constant stroking.

It would be funny were it also not so incredibly sad. It used to give me a chuckle but it's bordering on pathetic. Did you read about the trip he took to NY about a month or two ago? There was just one supporter outside when he arrived. It was said that he was so depressed by that that Jr. sent out an announcement asking his supporters to greet him so a bunch of people showed up the next day and he was happy. One can't help but almost feel for the guy.

More than 300,000 new infections have been registered in India daily for nearly two weeks now, with a total of nearly 20 million infected. However, experts believe that the actual number may be 5-10 times higher than official statistics show.

The authorities were surprised by the powerful new Covid wave in India and are facing enormous difficulties in obtaining the most necessary resources - intensive hospital beds, oxygen for breathing, medicines. Not to mention that India does not yet have any effective strategy to combat the pandemic.

The task is further complicated by the many conspiracy theories, fake news and unreliable information that is being spread mainly on the social networks. There is a wide variety of assumptions and claims about the causes of the new wave in India, as well as suspicions against vaccines, and all kinds of prescriptions for home treatment are being circulated.

California leading the way again. They have to treat all web traffic equally. What a novel idea.

Net neutrality law to take effect in California after judge deals blow to telecom industry

Trump's administration struck down net neutrality. California passed protection for it. Telecoms sued. California just won the lawsuit.

"Decision could open the door for other states to pass open-Internet rules the Trump administration opposed

California may soon begin enforcing its first-in-the-nation net neutrality law after a federal judge on Tuesday ruled against broadband providers that had sought to scuttle the state’s open-Internet safeguards.

The ruling amounts to a major victory for advocates of rules that require AT&T, Comcast, Verizon and other telecom giants to treat all Web traffic equally, potentially setting the stage for states nationwide to follow California’s lead and adopt tough new protections of their own."

That was the Obama Administration's policy, until the ISP industry's best lobbyist became chair of the FCC.

Comcast, Verizon, Cox and the rest were all set to start trying to make the internet work like cable TV.

Indeed, refusing to retire into obscurity and needing to run his gob nonstop to ensure the world thinks him deranged and unintelligent, Trump is in talks to partner with small obscure, seemingly failed app Freespace, which has had a mind-boggling 20,000 downloads. Not users, downloads.

According to their own value statement, Freespace are focused on the power of positivity that entrepreneurs and families can be proud of, so not sure why they would want to partner with Trump, unless they want to create some unhinged safe space for stupid people.

However, given Trump's track record of failure, I don't think this will work out:

The big winning innovation that really propelled google and Facebook into a cash-machine status was not internet search, and neither the social linking of millions of users. The core of their success was their sale of ad space around content they were getting for free.

Now, as the regulatory authorities of Europe and the US and in other parts of the world have realised the question of breaking up the monopolies from Silicon Valley, these giants are being compelled to amend their formula. The two companies have started signing agreements with news organisations, and paying for the news content they have been getting. This is meant to not just help them bring their activities in line with the new copyright laws, but also restore some trust from the media industry.

Why Google and Facebook are being asked to pay for the news they use

Facebook blocks Trump 'at least until transition complete'

A step that has been overdue for at least 4 years!

I know... there will be people with "Freedom of Speech" as an argument again... but that's ridiculous!

Whoever abuses constitutional rights like "Freedom of Speech" and uses those against the constitution, which grants these rights, loses his constitutional rights in the matter! Everything else is bullshit.

But first of all there are the official user rules and guidelines of the services and whoever, like Donald Trump, thinks that rules are only there to be ignored, then also has to live with the consequences like now - point and "Basta"!

On a side note... should I start getting concerned about the Don's health, now that all his venting outlets have been shut? (Pst! Nope, not really!) ;-)
