We're from all corners of the world here. I'm sure you must love the place you live in, right now. So if you had to choose one single picture to characterize your place of residence with, which one would it be? Show it here and explain why it's the most characteristic sight for your town.

You could also add one for the town where you were born, in case it's different from your current one.

Mine:

Place of birth:
Hafnarfjörður, Iceland --

A re-enactment of a Viking fight at the annual Viking games.

Place of residence:
Uppsala, Sweden --

The Uppsala university, which gives the old capital the typical small-town charm.

Your turn now!

This is the Burnside Fountain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnside_Fountain), located in the center of Worcester, Massachusetts. Better known to the locals around here as "Turtle Boy."

Yes, what you think is happening in this photo is probably what's happening.

In Up With the Star there is an inverse Citadel along the Oder River followed by US Grant IV attacking the Russians from the north and Nathan Bedford Forrest III spanking Zhukov in the south. Tsarist Russia develops the Bomb first and has Moar Mnogo Nukes, though I might note that like the Soviet program the Tsarist nuke program was run by the Okhrana under Roman Ungern-Sternberg (i.e. the Tsarist secret police is run by somebody as nasty as Beria). The Central Powers program has also produced its first Nuke.

The LULZ comes in from the unfortunate situation where my ATL WWII lacks any means, even with a general atomic war, for either the Eastern Alliance of Nations or the Central Powers to defeat each other.

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] will be interested to know that it was designed by a certain Lt. George G. Meade, who later went on and made something of a name for himself.

Here is the Emancipation Oak tree:

Image

It was under this tree in 1861, under protection of Union soldiers, slaves that escaped from nearby Hampton were given school lessons by Mary Smith Peake, an African American woman. President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was read from this location in 1863.

And there are so many beaches, some of the most pretty on the Eastern Seaboard, like this one in the Ocean View section of Norfolk:

Designed by Santiago Calatrava, fitting that the building itself is a work of art. Not gonna spam pics here, I think if you like this you should do a google image search for "milwaukee art museum" and behold the wonder of it all.
