Date: 8/7/11 22:11 (UTC)That puts it at 23rd biggest in the US. I think what is so stark is that the rest of Oregon has so little population in comparison. There's under 4m in the entire state so literally 50% of Oregon lives in the portland metro. Something that rural people are all too aware of when it comes to tax spending and legislation. 70% of the oregon population in the Willamette.
That means only 1m people in the rest of the state. By population density, that would put it under S. Dakota, 46th place in population density if it weren't for the valley area.
