We're from all corners of the world here. I'm sure you must love the place you live in, right now. So if you had to choose one single picture to characterize your place of residence with, which one would it be? Show it here and explain why it's the most characteristic sight for your town.

You could also add one for the town where you were born, in case it's different from your current one.

Mine:

Place of birth:
Hafnarfjörður, Iceland --

A re-enactment of a Viking fight at the annual Viking games.

Place of residence:
Uppsala, Sweden --

The Uppsala university, which gives the old capital the typical small-town charm.

Your turn now!

Well, the portland metro is not small. It's spread out and sprawling. Portland itself is only 500k, but if you include the whole area (and it basically all blends in to each other in perpetual sprawling neighborhood pock marked with strip malls) its over 2m.

That puts it at 23rd biggest in the US. I think what is so stark is that the rest of Oregon has so little population in comparison. There's under 4m in the entire state so literally 50% of Oregon lives in the portland metro. Something that rural people are all too aware of when it comes to tax spending and legislation. 70% of the oregon population in the Willamette.

That means only 1m people in the rest of the state. By population density, that would put it under S. Dakota, 46th place in population density if it weren't for the valley area.
