Given that the "War on Drugs" appears to the rest of the world to be lost:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13624303
I wonder what would make the US finally give it up as a lost cause?
Is it that there is just too much invested in the "War" for the US powers-that-be to relinquish one of its sacred cows? Or given the CIA's historic role in Latin America, and in various "drugs for weapons" and "drugs for freedom" operations world-wide (TM Oliver North, Taliban insurgency, et al) would liberalising the drugs laws run counter to US interests?
My own opinion is that we should legalise immediately. But I may just be an old hippie.

Date: 2/6/11 20:56 (UTC)Look, I agree with the goal of ending the drug war, but I'm skeptical of even the advocacy groups whose goals align with mine.
And mind you, I'm not saying that there aren't those who stand to benefit from the status quo, but as long as we're talking likelihoods, there is also an likely incentive to make lots of money in a legal drug market, so until we leave the realm of likelihoods and enter the realm of paper trails, then we're all just blowing smoke up our asses. The only ones who will certainly lose out are the cartels and dealers because they're not accustomed to having to work inside a legit market instead of outside of it. Everyone else can expect to continue making money in a new market the same as they did with other markets.

The "evidence" witch hunts so many presume to partake in are soo lame. Walking around demanding evidence for social issues which are not empirical enough to merit a "proof" context, thinking people in this world are obligated to explain things.
If people were obligated to provide anything borderline educational or informative there wouldn't be so many bad, horrendously misguided, views on practically every topic imaginable. And, US politics wouldn't be such a joke.

No one really says everything they know. Information is valuable. If you think political pundits or anyone who offers analysis on a topic is unbiased, then its possible ur rong.
