We have a president who tells the truth. He didn't dress up today's speech with all kinds of prettiness. He said people would have to make painful sacrifices. But they would be for the good of the future. I still feel for folks who are losing their jobs, and it may be cold comfort for them that he was honest. But i would still rather have honesty than political spin. Or inaction.

Date: 1/6/09 21:35 (UTC)one of the main reasons he failed as a president was because he refused to play into the political games the senate and house demanded in exchange for votes on bills.

Date: 2/6/09 07:29 (UTC)No they didn't. They said "Fuck you, you pie-faced peanut farmer! Get your goddam hands off my thermostat and my speedometer, this is MY stuff!"
Then they voted in a guy who told them they'd all have to make sacrifices, while cutting their taxes and borrowing the difference. Gotta love how that works. What you actually DO doesn't matter at all.

He tells the truth here because its expedient for him, he can blame this mess on someone else. The worse he portrays the initial problem, the more he looks good if the solution is at all effective.

Date: 2/6/09 17:45 (UTC)I'm not sure if the truth is expedient for him in this case, but i guess we'll wait and see how the polling works out.

Date: 1/6/09 23:40 (UTC)LOL he lies in a process of a single speech. I will not raise taxes on the poor - we are considering a across the board federal sales tax. We will pull out the troops from Iraq in a year - we will have elements of troops in Iraq for the next 10-15 years. I want to poor to get a good education - I will cut vouchers for the poor to attend good schools and deny then choice in schools.
You clearly are not listening to the man.

Date: 2/6/09 01:12 (UTC)OK, why do I have to make sacrifices for someone else's mistakes? I didn't buy a house I couldn't afford, I didn't invest in financial instruments I don't understand, I don't even have a credit card and except for a small loan I took out to buy a used car (long since paid off) I have had no personal debt for over 10 years. In what way am I obliged to sacrifice and from where does that obligation arise?

Date: 2/6/09 17:54 (UTC)it's a personal preference whether you think the US should continue to manufacture anything at all, but i for one think it's good to continue making things.
i don't like the auto industry, but far more people would suffer if this weren't happening.
