My grandparents would speak Ukrainina around the house as I was growing up, so I picked up a decent amount of verbal knowledge but I never really learned the Cyrillic alphabet, something that I've regreted since since I started hanging out on LJ.
My Arabic is the same way, I can listen well enough to follow a conversation, but the alphabet is just a bunch of squiggly lines to me.
