Is the Republican party of today really Conservative?

Consider this:

Republicans aren’t conservative anymore
In the United States, the Republican Party is ostensibly the party of conservatism. But recent action by Republicans — politicians and citizens alike — contradict many of the values they claim to stand for as conservatives.

And also this:

Radical Republicans Are Not Conservatives
By mislabeling the radical members of the Republican Party "conservative," the mainstream media gives them a veneer of respectability.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and there are almost as many opinions as there are people, you might agree or disagree with the notion that today's Republicans do not really follow Conservative principles, so here is your opportunity to have your say.

I'd argue that by the looks ofit, many Republicans are now fascists, not conservative:

But then again, were the Nazis conservative? Right wing extremists never are.

In any case, most Republicans I know seem to be in some sort of deep denial regarding this changing world.

I've seen the Fourteen Characteristics list attributed to Umberto Eco under the heading of "Ur-Fascism", and whoever's responsible for the list, I'd agree with you about a very large portion of the current Republican Party's roster. They have indeed gone from "conservative" to fascist.

Eco's Ur-Fascism is so useless a concept it can describe everything from the Roman Empire to the Soviet Union without changing any of its 14 principles.

I prefer the definition of Michael Mann as he at least didn't dehistoricize fascism and remove the warlike death cult aspect.

Thanks for posting. I don't know many staunch Republicans, but based on the news as of late I think I'd have to agree. I'm wondering if a better name for these folks would be "Trumpocrats". Ex-Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich is a self-proclaimed Trumpocrat, so I think all his buddies should be as well.

Conservatism had a Reagan and Goldwater cult before it had a Trump one. How much has conservatism really changed versus the nature of the cult and who it kneels before?

I really don't know what conservative means any more.
