Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons!
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons!

And the impure blood is about to spill...

French soldiers warn of civil war in new letter
A new open letter has been published in France warning of the threat of civil war and claiming to have more than 130,000 signatures from the public. The message, published in a right-wing magazine, accuses the French government of granting "concessions" to Islamism.

Well, it's Valeurs Actuelles, ie a bit like Fox News - Tucker Carlson, so you have to read it with a certain distance, a certain critical spirit.

On the other hand, I don't think that this can be read as a warning of a coming revolution but rather of the possibility of the advent of a political list made up of military personnel and that we shouldn't be surprised if a certain General de Villiers (who is multiplying books with a political tendency) were to run and win the next presidential elections. That same Villiers who was sacked by Macron. Because he literally said he didn't care about his orders. They can talk about respecting the "value" but what they're doing is pushing the far right agenda, plain and simple.

I see this as trouble both for Macron and Le Pen, frankly.

Oh, and just for some context. In France, unlike in a typical US city, the suburbs tend to be where poor immigrant communities live, whereas the city center is rich and mostly indigenous (that's not always the case of course, for example some Western suburbs of Paris are very wealthy, and some Northern areas of Paris proper are rather poor and populated by immigrants or people of immigrant descent).

When these generals speak of "suburban hordes" they mean communities in the suburbs of cities, of admittedly immigrant background, mostly from Africa, including North Africa, who sometimes break the news with stories of riots, or sometimes terrorist acts. I'm not making a judgment call here, just explaining what they're referencing. In case any of you had an image in your head of a large group of Karens and Chads demanding to speak to everyone's manager.

I'd noticed this particular argument flaring up via The Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/29/french-soldiers-to-face-military-court-over-letter-warning-of-civil-war

Noting that the first letter was published on the 60th anniversary of a failed coup-d'état by French generals opposed to Algerian independence from French control. That bit of timing was definitely planned.

More recently...

By describing anti-racism as a "peril", they've already wrongfooted themselves with me. Quoting the second Guardian article:

It also accused anti-racism groups of creating “hatred between communities” and cautioned that “lax” government policies could spark chaos requiring military action to “protect our civilisational values”.

If one declares opposition to anti-racism, one is making their true stance clear. That I am not at all part of the intended audience of either of these letters means nothing to me.

Will no-one defend the poor overlooked fascists in the military? They will be getting psychologically damaged by all the folk ignoring their really, really important message; that some Brown folk in the suburbs have a religion that isn’t approved by fascist thinking, unless you’re David Myatt.

These folk are out there, honing their prejudices for the common good of all white folk who aren’t Jewish or gay or transgender, and what thanks do they get? I mean who else would spend all their time with fetishised weapons of war, practising ways of killing enemies?

Maybe we should set up a charity for them. Or a petting zoo. Something to make them feel loved and wanted.

I do hope folk recognise extended forms of sarcasm.

I’m afraid the third-world-status within the continent of Europe thing already has a winner and it isn’t France.

And it has little to do with actual immigration in the UK’s case, more the fear of it.
