Hi guys! As the titular Monthly-topic announcer is a bit offline these days, it's my pleasure to present the result from last month's poll for a Monthly Topic:

Big Government: The Power Grab

Oops! Following "Money in Politics", now this is as controversial as controversial goes.

Some details, like you need any:

- Forms of government.
- Forms of statism: Kemalism, Leninism, state capitalism, etc.
- Bureaucracy gone rogue.
- Statism and the nanny state.
- Libertarianism and the idea of a limited government.
- Inefficient and dysfunctional government institutions.
- The clash: federal power vs state rights.
- Intransparency and lack of accountability in government.
- The system of checks and balances.
- The welfare state, social nets, and their abuse.
- Cost and benefit of big government.
- Government as a guarantor for civil rights and social justice.
- The police state: universal surveillance in the name of security.
- Mixed economy and welfare capitalism
- Anarchism, technocracy and other utopian alternatives to big government.

And the poll for the August monthly topic:

I am surprised that Bush the Elder's famous "New World Order" does not merit a bullet item (except perhaps for the surveillance state). Global policing is an aspect of big government with which people on both the right and left are uncomfortable.

It's quite alright; we all yearn for that time when we were young and invincible.
For some of us, it lasts longer than others ;)

I was not so invincible back then and Panama certainly was not either.
