WTF?

Feds send the wrong message, feeding hysteria, and implying they are prepared to write off some NDN communities. No doubt there will be job openings in the Dept of Indian Affairs and/or Health Canada. As bad as the optics are, the political fallout rests on a deaf electorate.

I think we all have to take responsibility for our actions and our words. We are a free country, and this balance between freedom and safety is one that we have to carefully balance. I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw -- I saw this myself in the late ‘70s in San Francisco, This kind of rhetoric is very frightening… I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm… Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, 9/17/09

Reaction on Fox & Friends today:
Middle Aged Bald Guy:…but my real concern is, when you raise it in this fashion, you hearken to terrible tragedies involving political assassination….

Brian Kilmeade: Giving people ideas!

Middle Aged Bald Guy:…and it’s a horrible thing to do. Clearly she was emotionally overcome. But was it the right thing to do?

Claiming that the president is a usurping foreign agent out to deliberately destroy the country, bringing loaded guns to presidential speeches while carrying signs about the tree of liberty being watered by the blood of tyrants, (or carrying signs that say things like “I’ve Come Unarmed – This Time” ) and invoking secession from the bully pulpit of your position as a state governor…

None of these things are going to give people “ideas.”

But objecting to them does.

See, none of those people buying up guns and ammo and packing heat in public were likely to get the idea of using that ammo against those they define as traitors and commies and Nazis and terrorists

...until Nancy Pelosi reminded them of what happened to Milk and Moscone.

"Betrayal! The U.S. sold us to Russia and stabbed us in the back," the Polish tabloid Fakt declared on its front page.

An editorial in Hospodarske Novine, a respected pro-business Czech newspaper, said: "an ally we rely on has betrayed us, and exchanged us for its own, better relations with Russia, of which we are rightly afraid."

From the National Review:
"In a remarkable feat of doublespeak, Obama and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates have tried to portray the move as an embrace of missile defense that will enhance our security. Rather than focusing on long-range threats from Iran, they say, the United States now will concentrate on short-range threats."

from FOXNEWS:

"President Obama not only threw an ally overboard, he got snookered by the Russians, and just moved us closer to a world where the mad mullahs have the bomb."

---

What is wrong with this picture (aside from the fact that the Cold War is over)?

1. The missile-defense shield is a fantasy to begin with.
2. No missiles exist that are capable of hitting long-range ballistic missiles.
3. If they did exist, it wouldn't protect European countries from Russia, because Russia wouldn't use long-range missiles to attack; they would use short and medium range missiles.
4. Prototypes tested still can't tell real missiles from decoys, or kill missiles that change course in mid-flight, as the sophisticated ones can.
5. Instead of bogus Polish interceptors, Obama is going to fund smaller missile-defense systems designed to knock out rockets during the boost, or takeoff phase, when the rocket is slower, hotter, and easier to hit.
6. Like the 'birther' BS, criticism of Obama over this is also nonsense.

So, a lot of people see ACORN as a criminal organization, that's covering up their employees' willingness to participate in child-prostitution conspiracies and their attempts to rig the election for Obama (this is all utterly untrue, but we'll pretend that everyone knows this and move on.

Well, how about this?

In Brief: If You're Gonna Ban ACORN Funding, You Oughta Ban Catholic Charities Funding:
Some things are easy to put in perspective: We have a case in Albany, NY, where Catholic Charities funds were used as part of a settlement on a case of molestation by clergy. In Cleveland in 2002, at a Catholic Charities-supported child care center, five workers were arrested on charges of sexual abuse of children. The number of cases of molestation by workers, of the cloth or not, at Catholic Charities-run or -owned facilities could go on and on and on, as the abuse did for years.

In August of this year, Catholic Charities received a federal government contract for $100 million over five years to work with victims of natural disasters.

And the outrage is...where exactly?

So, here you have a long history of criminal activity that was covered up by the organization in question. When will the republicans in congress RISE UP and strip funding away from this criminal organization???
